  • Patients and hospital staff interact in the Duke Hospital outpatient clinic waiting room. Between 1930 to 1940, approximately half a million visits were made to the outpatient clinic (referred to early on as the OPC). By the early 1950s, an average of 391 patients were seen daily (including Saturdays and holidays) at the clinic.
