Description
  • In his letter dated January 26, 1971 to Dr. Louis deS. Shaffner, President of the NC Medical Society, Dr. Bob Howard explains why an ex-chiropractor has been enrolled in the PA Program at Duke as an "experiment." He writes that "We realized at the onset that there might be some political repercussions but chose this course of actions for several reasons." The reasons include: (1) man has given up practice as chiropractor, (2) he is highly recommended by three MDs, (3) he has high aptitude for medicine, (4) a recommending cardiologist will hire him after training, (5) having received increased numbers of applications from chiropractors - need to admit few to see if they can work in dependent role, and (6) if successful - may reduce chiropractor in-road into medicine as alternative therapy.
