- The search was conducted on June 3, 2024, across three databases: MEDLINE (via PubMed), Embase (via Elsevier), and Web of Science (via Clarivate). In MEDLINE, search terms included variations of epilepsy and RNS, yielding 273,740 and 23,965 results, respectively, with 683 for combined terms. A date limiter from 2005 to 2024 narrowed it to 674 results . Validation strings were used to ensure accuracy. In Embase, the same concepts were searched, yielding 501,526 epilepsy and 18,088 RNS results, combined to 1,598, and filtered to 1,255 after removing conference abstracts and limiting the publication years. In Web of Science, the search returned 288,256 epilepsy and 11,306 RNS results, with 699 combined and 694 after applying the date limiter, further filtered to 579 for article and review article publication types. The search strategies were developed and peer-reviewed by librarians from Duke University Medical Center Library & Archives.
