Item Description

Description	Alpha Kappa Kappa (AKK), Beta Nu chapter was established at Duke University School of Medicine on October 24, 1931. (Front row, center) Dr. Kinney. A large share of credit for the establishment belongs to the neighboring Beta Iota chapter at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. The initiation was conducted by Grand President John Perley Sprauge and Grand Secretary-Treasurer Albert B. Landrum, in the court room of the School of Law. At least five fraternities have been founded in the School of Medicine: Alpha Kappa Kappa, Alpha Omega Alpha, Nu Sigma Nu, Phi Beta Pi, and Phi Chi. These societies maintained lounges on the first floor of the School of Medicine (opposite the Hospital store) until 1938, after which some of them have established residence headquarters off the campus.
