  • The Duke Hospital Auxiliary was started in 1950, and Betty Leach started to do volunteer work them in 1956, shortly after moving to Durham. She was vital to the founding of the “Pink Smock” gift shops at Duke Hospital. These stores grew from a simple cart operation into four full retail shops.
