Dear Dr. Davison,
Very many thanks for your kind letter expressing your sympathy in the loss of my dear old ship the "Erin" It is indeed sad that we shall never see the dear old boat again, but I am consoled to some extent by the recollections of many happy days spent aboard in company with many delightful friends, including your good self. It is also some satisfaction to know that she has taken her part in the great struggle and that she went down "doing her bit", as I learn from the Paris papers that as recently as the 19th April, she herself sunk an enemy submarine by gunfire off Syracuse, Sicil the survivors being interned at Taranto.
