Item Description

Description	Dr. Clarence Gardner sews up a patient in the Duke Hospital emergency room. He is assisted by Miss Antoinette Makeley, R.N. The group of young men observing the procedure is likely comprised of medical students or interns. Dr. Clarence Ellsworth Gardner, Jr., was a member of the original faculty, beginning as professor of surgery in 1930. He later served as chair of the Dept. of Surgery from 1960 to 1964.
