Description
  • Newsletter written by Mr. Stanhope, secretary of the American Academy of Physicians' Associates in January or February 1973 (undated). He mentions that "As membership base increases daily we are growing more affluent than ever before" indicating that the AAPA has $1000 unencumbered cash on hand and anticipated a budget of $18,000 in 1973. The newsletter discusses the upcoming First National Conference on Health Practitioners and indicates that a close and effective working relationship has been established as indicated by attached summary of meeting held with American Medical Association representatives on September (i.e. August) 29, 1972. The meeting was attended by Dr. Sadler, Mr. Godkins and Mr. Stanhope. One outcome of the meeting is that the AMA "does not want to involve itself with more than one organization purporting to represent PAs, and because of the multiplicity of organizations has been moving slowly albeit steadily forward in its dealings with graduate PAs. It has been stated several times that if there was one reputable organization of graduates things could be farther along. To meet these ends the AMA has been encouraging a merger between the Academy and the American College of Physicians' Assistants."
