- This article appeared in the March 26, 1972 Sunday issue of the Boston Herald Traveler (Sunday herald traveler). The supplement is titled "Your Physician and You: Medical Care in Massachusetts" and was prepared by the Boston Herald Traveler and the Massachusetts Medical Society. The article on "The Physician Assistant" was written by Dr. Lamar Soutter, Dean of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He describes the need for PAs in Massachusetts and the development of the PA Program at Northeastern University and the Massachusetts Medical Society. The program "matriculated its first class last June." He continues by defining the role and education of physician assistants. Several photographs of PA students in training at the Tufts-New England Medical Center accompany the article.
