Description |
- This article appearing in the August 20, 1973 issue of American Medical News indicates that the American College of Surgeons has adopted "standards aimed at promoting high-quality training of surgeons' assistants" and published these standards in the college's Bulletin. This was an action taken independently of the American Medical Association "after more than three years of efforts." The AMA stance was that the organization was not sure there was a need for such assistants because there was not a shortage, only misdistribution, of surgeons in the country. A brief description of the standards is presented in the article.
