  • Minutes of the second meeting of the Task Force on Physician's Assistant Programs of the AMA and AAMC Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) that met at the Regency Hyatt House Hotel, Chicago, IL on April 28, 1971. The committee adopted recommendations for the Liaison Committee on Medical Education including: (1) a PA program should be affiliated with a facility that trains physicians to assure close professional relationships between PAs and physicians, (2) The LCME should be responsible for the accreditation of Type A PA programs, (3) The LCME should work in concert with AMA to develop essentials and guidelines for such educational programs, and (4) the "attached requirements" taken from the proposed regulations to be adopted by the NC Board of Medical Examiners" -- should be used as a model for items to include in the essentials." It was recommended that Type B and C PA programs be given further consideration. A plan was submitted for developing an accreditation process for Type A physician's assistants.
