Description: This NCCPA report was submitted to the Department of Health, Education and Welfare, Bureau of Health Manpower in September 1980 as required by DHEW Contract NO1 AH 44110 awarded in October 1977.  The award was $244,770 for three years.  The report describes the NCCPA efforts to establish a continued system of evaluating the competence of PAs through examination, test analysis and recertification.  New initiatives included: modification of the clinical examination component, introduction of performance feedback, changing eligibility criteria for informally trained candidates, formation of a recertification plan and development and pilot testing of a proficiency examination in surgery.
