- Hamblen came to Duke University in 1931 as a member of the original faculty. He organized Duke's Division of Endocrinology in 1936 as a division of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. During his career at Duke, Hamblen was an associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology, clinical professor of endocrinology, associate obstetrician and gynecologist, and chief of the endocrine division at Duke University Hospital (1937-1955). Hamblen wrote and researched extensively on childlessness and childbearing.
