Item Description

  • Donald Hayman shown typing case histories as recorded on a dictaphone cylinder. The Civilian Public Service Unit was established on October 27, 1942 at Duke Hospital under the direction of the Department of Neuropsychiatry. Conscientious objectors were assigned to the unit to assist in duties like charting, keeping records of patients, and clinical lab work.
