Hospital administrative internships were inspired by Dr. Michael M. Davis' Hospital Administration: A Career, the thesis of which was that teaching hospitals should seek keen university graduates who had specialized in economics and sociology, and appoint them as administrative interns to be trained as hospital superintendents.
