Item Description

Description
  • Charles Wall poses in front of the Duke Medical Center Library as well as nearby construction sites. These photographs were taken in anticipation of him receiving the 40-year service award in 1977. Known by his close associates and friends as “Tom”, he was first hired to the Housekeeping Department in 1936. A Durham native, he followed the legacy of his uncle who was also a Medical Center employee with a long tenure that came to Durham when Trinity College moved there. It is for the Wall family that the section near Northgate Shopping Center is named, Wall Town. Charles Wall spent most of his time working in the library and moved with the library when Mudd Building opened.
