  • Eugene Anson Stead, Jr. was professor of medicine and chair of the Dept. of Medicine at Duke University from 1947 to 1967. He was a Lt. Col. with the 65th General Hospital between wars and helped start the Cardiovascular Teaching and Training Program in 1949. He is also known as the founder of the Physician Assistant Program at Duke University. Eugene Anson Stead, Jr received his undergraduate and medical degrees from Emory (B.S., 1928; M.D., 1932).
