Description
  • Proceedings of a meeting held at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville, NC in 1969 to introduce the PA concept to Board of Trustees, the Executive Committee of the Medical Staff, representatives of the Bylaws Subcommittee, the hospital's legal counsel, and other interested people. This was an early attempt to provide hospital privileges to PAs by changing hospital bylaws. Dr. Dixon had hired Stephen Joyner as PA and wanted to utilize him within the hospital to take care of patients sent there by their practice. Dr. Estes and Dr. Howard represented the Duke University PA program and Mr. Ken Holt was administrator from Watts Hospital, Durham, NC who developed procedures for granting PAs limited privileges within the hospital setting. The proceedings were included in a packet of information sent to those requesting information on use of PAs in hospitals in the early '70s.
