Description
  • Department of Health, Education and Welfare announces awarding $4 million in contracts in Fiscal 1972 to 25 institutions training PAs for primary care. A list of institutions and amounts awarded is provided. This is first time these type programs have been awarded funds by the Office of Special Programs, under sections of the Comprehensive Health Manpower Training Act of 1971. "Estimates for number of PA graduates to date in the US range from 200 to 400." An appendix titled "Physician's Assistants in Perspective" is attached to the news release, indicating that twenty-three states "have explicitly authorized the activities of physician's assistants".
