- Dr. Harvey Estes, chair of Dept. of Community and Family Medicine, writes January 19, 1970 to Dr. Barnes Woodhall, Chancellor of Duke University, to request that he send letters of support to the Rockefeller Foundation, Carnegie Corporation and Commonwealth Fund. Estes states that "All three foundations plan to present their trustees a request for a total of $150,000 over the next three year period." Dr. Woodhall sends letters of support to each foundation on January 22, 1970. In his letter, Woodhall praises Dr. Estes for his leadership in the area of community medicine and neighborhood health models.
