Description
  • Letter from Thomas Godkins, President of American Academy of Physicians' Associates to general AAPA membership updating them on matters of interest. He mentions trying to develop affiliations with the American Hospital Association, Association of American Medical Colleges, the Office of Education (HEW), American Academy of Pediatrics, American Society of Internal Medicine, American Academy of Internal Medicine, and the Colleges representing OB/GYN physicians and surgeons. Formal recognition by the American Medial Association has "yet to occur" and they (the AMA) "recommend that we change our name from Associates to Assistants and merge with the American College of Physician's Assistants." Mr. Godkins indicates that he has appointed a special committee chaired by Paul Moson to investigate making the Academy more inclusive, making necessary by-law changes to do so, and feasibility of merging with the American College of Physician's Assistants. A meeting is called for February 3, 1973 to propose by-law changes, change the name of the Academy to the American Academy of Physicians' Assistants and propose merger with the College.
