- Dr. Davison, former Dean of the Duke University Medical School, sent E. Harvey Estes, Jr. this letter in 1968 with a clipping from Newsweek Magazine about an individual who had masqueraded as a physician in small town in Texas. When asked many of the patients stated that “if he isn’t a doctor, he should be.” Dr. Davison indicates the article underscores the need for physician assistants but under physician supervision. Dr. Estes responds with letter dated January 4, 1968 affirming Dr. Davison’s sentiments.
