- This statement by the American Hospital Association Council on Professional Services dated March 7 & 8, 1974 replaces an earlier statement dated November 18, 1970. The statement provides a definition of the Physician's Assistant, general policy guidelines for the institution, policies relating to the individual Physician's Assistant, and legal issues that must be considered. In an accompanying cover letter dated April 24, 1974, Robert Jewett, MD, president of the Association of Physician Assistant Programs, states "It seems like a good document and comes at a time when we can make prompt use of this statement."
