Description
  • This is testimony offered by Dr. Archie Golden, Chairman of the Government Relations Committee of the Association of Physician Assistant Programs to the Senate's Subcommittee on Rural Development, on S. 708 and the Medicare reimbursement system. Dr. Golden cites Federal support of PA educational programs and stresses the impact PAs are having on "economics" of care, access to care and quality of care. He recommends reimbursement for PA services in "health clinics in medically underserved rural areas and other underserved areas. He estimates the potential costs of national reimbursement of PA and NP services to be $14 million -- "not a large amount -- and three quarters of that amount is in reality being reimbursed today to physicians employing these new practitioners." A summary of comments and recommendations before the Subcommittee on Rural Development is attached to this document. It contains remarks and recommendations from Dan P. Fox, PA-0C, President Elect of the American Academy of Physician's Assistants and other leaders of organized medicine and nursing.
